WATCH: A College Radio Show Calls Out Racism In ‘Dear White People’

Posted on ANDPOP:

Now here’s a film that will definitely get people talking. While we first got a glimpse at Justin Simien’s Sundance hit Dear White People last month, a newly released trailer for the film gives us a satirical look at how white and black people interact with one another.

Chronicling the stories of four black students at an Ivy League college, a riot breaks out over a popular ‘African American’ themed party thrown by white students.

But while systemic racism is still very much a thing in the 21st century, this comedic film uses some pretty humourous lines to get people thinking.

“Dear white people,” says a black radio DJ at the fictional Winchester College, where the film is set. “The minimum number of black friends to not seem racist has been raised to two. Sorry, but your weed man Tyrone doesn’t count.”

“Dear white people: please stop touching my hair,” the same DJ later says. “Does this look like a petting zoo to you?”

Dear White People is set to open in theatres October 17. We’re excited to see what the reactions will be once it releases!
